5 tips for taking photos in black and white
Photography in Black & White is the most interesting aspect of this art and inspiring that it is a hobby or passion. E 'rough and refined, natural, unusual, mysterious and clear, emotional and unemotional, simple and complex, white and black . The monochrome photography was born, but what was once a technological limit today is something much deeper.
When We take black and white, our pictures can not count on a key element in terms of visual and emotional, the color, then have to ask for help from other elements of composition in nature. Here are some tips for getting the most out of black and white photography.
THE PRACTICE AND 'THE KEY
A professional photographer in black and white is easily able to observe the world without color. It 's basically used to capture the contrasts and tones without the distraction of color variations.
Of course this is a skill that can not be acquired overnight, but it is something that is learned naturally over time until you become that which we will define the "mono vision" of the scene.
The first essential step is to exercise our brains to this view, and what better way to do that than by doing? Take pictures in black and white for a month and you will realize how you will improve your ability to composition
of images.
Focus on CONTRAST
(Photo by David James Williams )
The black and white photography, is composed of white, black and all shades of gray in between.
The human eye is a machine created to perceive two items from the world of the senses: the intensity of light and color. If we remove the color, our sensitivity to light increases (as a blind person develops other senses so formidable).
We are able to perceive more attention to areas of conflict and improve understanding of the differences between elements of the frame.
Use the contrast is therefore essential to focus the viewer's attention on the compositional elements and to show or hide more or less relevant areas of our shot. In addition, digital photography has the advantage (disadvantage to some) can be altered with software like Photoshop, which means that with the "levels" "curves" and mergers level allows us to obtain different results in our photographs, allowing us to work also portions of the image without affecting the rest.
Focus on TEXTURE
The texture is presented as a succession of reasons the almost irregular light and shadows and is particularly evident in the photograph in black and white, since the color adds a level of complexity to the image and mask the details. Are you looking for areas that have interesting textures, geometric shapes and examine their contrast repeated alternately.
The choices you make later in post-production (on your PC) can make a difference in the final image. During the conversion to black and white (if you have taken the picture using the color - see item successico) you can easily get the texture of surfaces that are ostensibly flat. Open the image in Photoshop and analizzatene channels (RGB - in the Channels palette next to the layers) by clicking on each one. You will notice that the surface will be presented with different patterns depending on your choice. Use tools such as the "channel mixer" or new feature black and white in Photoshop CS3 to optimize output.
CAPTURED IN COLOUR IMAGES

This is a strictly targeted advice for photographers who use digital ... Even if your camera lets you take pictures in black and white, DO NOT USE THIS FUNCTION! Digital cameras have an internal processor and an algorithm for conversion to black and white standards and that results from having an effect as when we use photo-editing software, which offer greater flexibility in the final result.
Exception: You can use the black and white camera to get a preview of how the scene will once photographed in monochrome; will figure out which scene is more likely to be shot in black and white. Once identified, return to the color mode and shoot your picture!
USED COLOUR FILTERS
(Photo by Al Wappy ) Great photographers have always used the traditional color filters to change the ways in which the tones were captured on film, in black and white.
If you do not have these filters, then the Photoshop we can always be of help: if you use Photoshop CS3, then you can rely on feature black and white I have just mentioned, but if you use the CS2, you can improve your photos black and white using a technique that is called " Method Russell Brown "(named after its inventor and on the basis of which was designed according to the black and white CS3)
