The child is probably one of the most fascinating and interesting subjects to photograph. Children are also more difficult to photograph people! To catch them really, in their very being, and get more than just a smile, it takes a work of patience, skill and ingenuity. Here are some small suggestion to create those images that stop time, which move the parents, and who can really tell a story.

The first step is preparation!

At this stage it is very important figure of the parents make sure before you start the session the children are rested and have eaten and above all make sure you choose a time that fits your child.
Also in preparation, one must study the subject for a sufficient time in order to find the right tune with the child and put him at ease: it is a mistake to think that a child participate and cooperate in the same way as an adult! You may need 2-3 hours for very young children, but not less than 1-2 hours for older children. It is the photographer who must adapt to the child, and not vice versa.

Appropriate clothing is essential!

Children are more likely to work if:
a) are at ease in their clothes;
b) have chosen their own clothing.
The images will be much more significant and less artificial as the child feels comfortable and confident.

And 'highly recommended that you start the session in a place familiar to the child, for example, his home, a beach or your favorite playground, and then you can move at will in other areas. When presented at a session, do not start taking pictures right away!

You will have to earn the trust of the child and parents before establishing a magical atmosphere. A good approach would be to get acquainted with the parents first, before the child, and then shift their attention to him (there will come a time when the child himself will require your attention!).

When you start to interact with the children, with camera in hand, would be a good idea to ask parents to leave the room or at least away from the view of the child. We must avoid in every way that Mom or Dad to remain standing behind you to suggest the child to smile and look towards the camera!
You need to talk to the children but, more importantly, listen to what they say. Let the magic happen!

TIPS IN BRIEF

1 - Get down to watch the world from their height: crouch, lie down, sit, etc. .. They will feel more comfortable and less intimidating.

2 - Ask them questions and make sure to think and speak. Ask them to tell their favorite story or show you they love the toy.

3 - Let them guide you in the photo session and do not kid yourself that you're running the show. Suggest ideas and encourage children to do something, but be flexible.

4 - Patience, patience, lots and lots of patience!

5 - Have fun! Will you succeed without a doubt!
