Taking photographs at night (especially portraits) can be a challenge given the total absence of natural light was failing to deliver consistently sharp pictures and detailed compositional elements.
But whoever said that photography is made only of perfectly exposed, sharp photos? Unless I'm mistaken in art rules are learned only to be broken, and I think that photography falls perfectly in the field of 'art.
However if you are looking for sound advice on how to take the most of your photographs at night, you can read this interesting guide (in English) posted on Photojojo.
These are some practical tips aimed at those who are not yet a professional photographic art and feels that there is always something to learn (like me for that matter).

The tips range from choosing the right settings for your camera, choosing the right setting, lighting conditions and background, in addition to those recommendations that are directed exclusively to the action of the photographer.
