Make Money with Micro Stock Photography (What is Micro Stock Photography?)

March 28, 2010 31,859 views 39 Comments |

image The concept of Micro stock, does not refer to something that has to do with the microscopic photograph, but it represents a new trend on the photography scene, fueled mainly by the advent of the internet. The concept is simple: in the net there are websites on which you upload the best photos, your children, your, objects, fruit, etc. etc.. Once accepted, these photographs will be on sale for those who would use them in publications, magazines or websites. The images are scaled and sold it at different resolutions, each with its own price.

What's the big news of the Microstock?

Unlike traditional stock photography sites, where images are subject to a rigid selection process (so taken by professional photographers who invest time and money in professional equipment) and the cost is around 300-500 dollars, in Microstock sites, the percentage of accepted images is much better and does not require a specific instrumentation to obtain these results (although it is important to follow some specific standards of "quality"). The photos in question are sold in numbers ranging from 1 to $ 20, depending on the resolution at which the image is downloaded. The site that provides this service to sell these pictures for a percentage ranging from 50 to 75 (still proportional to the ease with which you sell the photographs). In addition to photographs, you can also upload images and vector illustrations made entirely on our computers, so even the illustrators make great economic benefit from this activity.

What are the sites where it earns more?

There are several sites that offer this service, and new ones are arising almost daily. The following list the most popular and if you think you are meant to his career as a microstock photographer, then I recommend you subscribe to all.

Sadly put links to sites with affiliate code's value has plunged to a simple multi-level propaganda ... I was hoping for something better, given the overall quality of the articles on this site.

  • admin (author) said:

Sure, why bloggers lose hours of their lives to share their passion only for love of neighbor.

What to take off their referral link is worth,? This is a list of microstock sites whose value and order of importance is given from my personal experience that I have the pleasure to share.

And rest assured that the hundreds of clicks they receive those links of 0.1% is recorded or is able to upload decent photos, why not with affiliations that I earn my living.

Now if you want to join, do not click on links, but vaccination directly, although I somehow doubt that you too can earn more than $ 1 per month.

    HELLO!

  • Dimitri said:

I understand that you feel offended, it was not my intention, indeed quite the opposite.
The problem of the link "sponsored" is hardly the author would speak ill of its source (albeit minimal) gain. So my suggestion was to aiutari: Next time think twice before entering a referral, because many (certainly not just me I noticed it) might think that your opinion on these services is not authoritative, and that the 'article is just an excuse to place your referrals ...

  • admin (author) said:

My article is only to place referrals, not coincidentally is up on the home page. Used to make me earn from my work as a blogger (and photographer).

How do I make a list of authoritative sites that sell the photos? The yellow pages are not authoritative because they have advertising? Then my reviews are like this: "Another very popular site, multi-lingual", "site with different price tiers based on quantity purchased images. Recently acquired by the agency Shutterstock, "so it does not seem to have made some kind of propaganda.

The only thing I did find, as a seller microstock, which are the sites where you earn more, so I repeat, you are free to follow my advice or referrals to jump, but be sure to order cha :

    1) give me reason about the quality of the sites listed
    2) will be leaving soon microstock

The only thing I did not clear is whether the inscriptions on these sites are free or not ... I probably do not understand that a 'happen, but I'm always a little wary of their earnings to the internet ... only this time the thing, I am intrigued ...

  • Andrew (author) said:

Registration is free, of course, you will indeed sign up to sell your photographs. You are right to be wary of those offering easy money on the internet, but here is different, here it is not easy and it all depends on your skill and perseverance in the upload.
Of my 150 affiliates around 3 or 4 people do it seriously, the rest has not even begun to load images.

I have two questions a bit 'special:
    - Can I subscribe to all sites and upload the same photos? Ie 'I can sell the same pictures on most' sites (assuming they are accepted)
    - Earnings are already 'taxed or should I declare them in the tax return?

  • andy2000 (author) said:

Surely, even you must upload your photos on sites as possible, although some offer the chance of being their exclusive dealers (and if so, provide a greater economic return).

Regarding taxes, I suggest you think about it once you start earning money, since the route is quite challenging.

    Hello ... I would like to ask a question ... before I register ...
how it works very simply ...
I sign up, upload a picture and then I do?
    as they pay me?
    matter how short the payments?
    thanks ...

  • Piero said:

I have another very important question ...
Once sold the photo, I remain owner of the image?
and in that case, I am named for its use?
    thanks ...

  • andy2000 (author) said:

Hello Piero, microstock sites are fairly simple and transparent. Upload your photos and, if approved, are put on display for sale. Once they reach a certain level you get paid.
The images after their sale remain yours, unless the site does not offer the opportunity to buy Extended license, and if so, They come to cost much more (even 25 $).

My advice is to start and see what kind of picture makes more. AI think there after payments :)

Hello! Spoke of the possibility of including illustrations, but entirely performed on the computer, so no manual? As for manual drawings and illustrations, is there any site that you buy them??

Ps.complimenti for the detailed article, I had no idea what they were microstock, now everything is clear.
    Thanks
    See you soon.

  • andy2000 (author) said:

I'm not sure that they do not accept illustrations made by hand, you should try to inform you, perhaps by sending them an email.
The only thought that comes to me is whether or not worth the trouble to create illustrations by hand, which I think require a substantial amount of time and resources (but I am a layman in the field and maybe I can answer that in 30 minutes achieves a spending plan 10 cents).
The choice is yours, but remember, with the photograph above you can roam and create a portfolio rich and very quickly, which is important if you aspire to have decent results early in your career as a contributor.
    Good luck!

Of course it is possible, indeed it is advisable to upload their photos of all the sites listed in this review to increase revenue opportunities.
    Hello good luck

Well, I will add a little hint: try to buy cameras shopdelricondizionato.com: we buy used parts at low cost, are new with 1 year warranty. I got a new Nikon and I was fine saving about 100-200 euros. Well, start with the best pick up a camera, possibly at a good price (look also in the various shops in town if they sell refurbished products to save money). Then subscribe to sites identified on the post: remember that you must maintain a high image quality, so you can not do much without a reflex. Objective 18-55 is fine, is located on different advertisements or ebay ads subito.it cheap, I have done good business. Photoshop is another indispensaible, as you know there is a 30-day trial and you also buy regular licenses at half price if you are a student. The free alternative is Gimp but in my opinion is not even remotely comparable to Photoshop. I hope these few tips useful and congratulations for the blog! Greetings from Rovigo, Philip

Hello Andy2000. your information is a wonderful discovery for me. I ask only one thing: To register for the sites you have indicated you have a VAT number?

  • Andy2000 (author) said:

Hello Lory, it is not necessary that you register for VAT to the sites listed above. It 'obvious that if the volume of business should be consistent would have to declare their earnings to the IRS ... but it is a problem which in my opinion there is in the early stages.
Try and keep me updated on the developments!

  • Lory said:
